Holy God, source of all that is good, true, and beautiful, reveal yourself to us.  We humbly bow before you, glorifying your name, which is above all names.

Remind us we are called to be your light to the world.  We are a people called into being through the work of the Spirit and exist to witness to the God found in the life, death, and resurrection of Christ.  We are witnesses to a world that does not know your Word as it has been revealed. We seek to be a community that remembers that violence, cynicism, sickness, and death have lost their power.  Mold us into a people who reveal to the world– through our words and actions– the Good News of the reconciling work of Christ.

We surrender our tendencies to be quick in giving easy answers and slow in wrestling with truth.  Give us the strength to resist being relevant at the expense of being honest. Forgive us for being more concerned about entertainment than faithfulness.  Our lives are not made intelligible through anything or anyone other than Your Son, the Word, who became flesh and dwelt among us.

We praise You, O Christ, in whom all things in heaven and on earth were created: things visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or powers.  Guide us in our continuing conversation with the saints of the past as we struggle to stay faithful today.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

An intercessory prayer given at Central Park Chapel in Holland, MI.
